Winter in Simcoe County is more than snow-covered trees and frozen ponds. It’s a time to slow down, take a breath, and reconnect with what matters. And this season, the Tiffin Centre for Conservation invites you to do just that through its Families in Nature Experience, a thoughtfully curated outdoor wellness series running on select Sundays between January 11 and February 15, 2026.
Set in the heart of Utopia’s peaceful forests, this experience blends adult self-care with enriching family adventure. It’s not just a retreat. It’s a chance to rediscover joy, togetherness, and the healing power of nature.

What Is the Families in Nature Experience?
Families in Nature is a dual-track winter wellness event held at the Tiffin Centre. Adults participate in Nature-Infused Yoga, a calming outdoor practice among the trees, while children and families join guided environmental education programs built around seasonal themes.
Whether you’re a parent seeking space to reflect or a family eager to explore the outdoors together, the program offers something meaningful for all.
The Tiffin Centre for Conservation: Nature’s Backyard
📍 8195 8th Line, Utopia, ON
Just a short drive from Barrie, the Tiffin Centre is known for its pristine trails, snowy forests, and year-round commitment to outdoor education and environmental stewardship. In winter, it becomes a sanctuary of calm and connection. It’s the perfect place to step away from the screens and schedules of daily life.

Nature-Infused Yoga: Me Time in the Forest
Begin with a slow, mindful walk through the woods. Guided by natural sounds and winter air, you’ll spend 15 to 30 minutes in quiet reflection, allowing stress to melt into the snow-covered landscape.
From there, the walk transitions into a peaceful yoga practice beneath the trees. Seasonal soundscapes and the scent of cedar help ground the experience. Sessions end with a cup of warm tea or time in a personal “sit spot” — moments that help your body and mind fully relax.
Yoga is beginner-friendly, welcoming all levels. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mat and dress warmly.
🧘 Yoga Price: $20 per participant
🕒 Time Options: 10:00 – 11:30 AM or 1:00 – 2:30 PM
🗓️ Dates: January 25, February 1, February 15

While You Recharge: Outdoor Adventures for the Whole Family
At the same time as yoga, children and family members (ages 5+) are invited to join nature-themed educational sessions led by experienced environmental educators.
These hands-on activities are more than fun. They build confidence, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the world outside.
January 25: Wilderness Survival Skills

🌲 Proper dress and layering for winter conditions
⛺ Shelter building with natural materials
🧭 An orienteering scavenger hunt using maps and compasses
Families work as teams to navigate challenges, build resilience, and connect through shared experience.
February 1: Winter Tree Identification
Nature becomes a living classroom as participants explore 12 native tree species using:
🌳 Field guides and custom trail maps
📖 A “Wanted: Dead or Alive” booklet to document discoveries
🎲 Nature-based games like Tree Tag and Squirrel Game
This playful approach makes it easy and fun to recognize local trees, which is a skill many adults wish they had learned sooner.

February 15: Kick Sledding Adventure
Glide across snowy trails on a traditional Nordic kick sled. It’s fun, active, and filled with fresh air.
🏂 Guided trail time with breaks for nature games
🌍 Learn the history and cultural roots of kick sledding
💪 Improve balance, coordination, and winter travel skills
This activity suits all skill levels, and rests are built in. Expect laughter, movement, and maybe a snowball or two.
